We have the theme "love" for next months camera club. We get to submit 2 shots and I have another more conventional one of my son and daughter-in-laws hands exchanging rings at their wedding - but - I want to try and get 'different' shots than the norm this year so thought of the quote "Greater love hath no man...l"

This is a composite of a shot of a statue of Simpson and his donkey and a diorama I took at the Australian War Memorial. I suspect the diorama might actually be WWII. Not sure if the treatment works though.

Interesting photo Gabby. I like that you are trying something different and I think what have come up with is visually captivating and thought provoking.

I like your processing of light and DOF. But something about the shininess of the figurine doesn't seem to sit quite right with me, but not sure what to do about it.

If you submit it, I'd like to hear what the judges think

Thanks Alan. I agree. I did try a few different things to try and make Simpson look less statue like and remove the shine but he always ended up too dark. Still a work in progress According to my eldest son who is a military history buff, the background is WWI but because of the German soldiers more likely Western Europe. Think I'll get rid of the Germans, hopefully make it appear a little more Gallipoli like.

A bit of trivia on your diorama from the Australian War Memorial and any member who is interested in these things.
The diorama titled "Ypres, 1917" depicts an attack on a pillbox in the Nonne Bosschen swamp, east of Ypres (Belgium) on Menin Road on 20 September 1917 towards the end of WW1.
It was a sculpture by Wallace Anderson. I'm sure your son would love to read about this battle of the Great War. This depiction is from the 3rd Battle of Ypres.
There was more than 1.7 million casualties, which is the entire population of South Australia!

Will pass that on to my son Isac. He has been interested in military history since studying Gallipoli in Gr 7 - even joined the reserves and took a year off uni to join a peace keeping deployment to the Solomons.
