I see the Peripheral Realist in you coming out here, Alan. That is not to deny your obvious attachment to the Rural Romantic aesthetic either.

        But very revealing once again.

Your attachment to the camera as the primary vehicle for your aesthetic vision, and then applying the "oily filter" to manipulate your vision, is very significant. It is obviously an exercise designed to explore, and thereby come to terms with, objects within your experience and to cleanse yourself of earlier traumas, perhaps residing now deep in your psyche, on the edge of the sub-conscous. The winding, or not winding, road is a recurring theme, it must be noted.

Many artists have had to come to terms with such similar issues. For example, Picasso's early experiences may have been responsible for what Robert Hughes has described as "...the intensity with which he could project his fear of women....."

I am not suggesting a similar issue in your work, but merely give Picasso as an example. Thus, your work, growing out of some earlier perhaps claustrophobic trauma, suggests a degree of triumphal ascendancy on occasions, but if this suggests celebration, it applies to the succesful subjugation of the object rather than to the object itself. The winding road ahead is thus for you an escape from your unconscious fears, a symbol of freedom, a method of release from earlier traumas. The oily filter becomes a way of taking control, of defining the limits and reigning in the boundaries of your fears.

Thanks for posting Alan. You are very brave to bare your soul in this way. Very moving.
        Charles

My indecision is final, I think.

it's uncanny what you can see in my work Charles. I was in a high state of trepidation as to what you might glean from my oily offering

Yes, the' ROAD' (winding or snaking) is pivotal and undeniably important in many of my compositions

Glad you were 'moved' - it's always a enjoyable experience

          (never liked Picasso)

I'm sure if I could understand ½ of wot Charles said I maybe inclined to agree with him?
Beautiful drive through there, did you add the mist as well?

What if there were no Hypothetical questions?
CC always welcomed, feel free to post your ideas with an edit if you have time - Thanks.

Glad I'm not the only one in trying understand wot he's on about (Peripheral Realist???)

I've spent the last hour trying to cleanse myself of earlier traumas, to no avail -I just ended up with a red rash.

Gaz - I'm appalled that you would even consider that I would add anything to my photos

There is no artificial mist here
