  • In a pickle

Been bagged out a fair bit about taking photos of birds on sticks and shooting what's there.
SOoooooo, been messing about with creating images..either in PS or arrangement; contrived - aka conceptual photography.

It's been rather fun and frustrating and I am learning a lot about how you have to control various aspects to make things look realistic.
SO hope you will all humour me with some of my efforts..think this will be my new obsession for a while.

Constructive criticism and suggestions and feedback always welcome.

This one is a little creepy....looking out for me.

Very interesting Jo, but I expect that from you.

You have certainly achieved the goal of making things appear realistic with #1. The image made me think of a Doctor Who companion captured by evil aliens and placed in a huge jar of preservative fluid for later exposure to cruel and heartless experimentation. The onions are probably the eggs of another species captured on a different planet and all will be revealed in next week's episode.

Can't get more realistic than that!

#2 is a seriously creepy kid who has a tempting apple in one hand...and a dagger in the other! He looks very cute and disarming at the same time though.

May be a good candidate for b&w conversion as I can see those eyes becoming quite menacing with a couple of photoshop tweaks.

Thanks for sharing these Jo. Good to see you experimenting and having some fun.

Wish the purists would get over it, barbed wire (or whatever) becomes a natural perch for them if it's in their environment. But, if they pushed you into doing this...... Love #1, very clever and well executed. #2 is more subtle and allows the viewer to put their own interpretation, definitely has a more sinister feel to it. Both well done Jo and looking forward to more.

          Thanks for your Comment Greg.

Mick..yep evil aliens..You are creative yourself... you may need to take up the call to write episodes for Dr Who. However I am wondering if it's me (the humanish looking pickle), that you think is an egg laying evil alien. Anyway look out, or they will kill you with their onion breath!!

PP, thanks for the encouraging words. I have plans!!! Brahahahahahahaaahahhaaa!!! Might involve wire and a purist!!!

What a shame this inapickle wasn't the age of your in a pickle again.

You have done a very good job with your photoshopping. It is always good to experiment a bit, as you never know where you will end up.

Just make sure you use barbed wire when dealing with purists, preferably rusty.

It's actually my preferred perch for small birds as it means you are probably at eye level and no leaves or twigs to clutter up the image.

And shooting "what's there" is one of my pet hates. A narrow depth of field is both desirable and totally unavoidable with long lens photography so an image of a bird with a blurred background is very unnatural and certainly not what one would see with the naked eye.

Don't get me started on purists or we'll be here all night.
