  • New Member Introduction.

New member from Virginia, USA. Found this forum suggested by the "photography-forum" closing down thread. I see several new members from there.

I'm glad "Brian" was not taken for an account name, makes it easy to remember my LogIn.

I've been on several camera forums for a long time- have made a number of forum-friends in Australia. Some of them have Lenses that I've worked on.

My friend wanted a lens made the same year he was, turning 80.

This is a "wartime" Zeiss lens, made in 1943.

Gave it a complete make-over before sending "way down under".

Oh yes, and to give an idea of age,

and have the pictures to prove it. Taken in 1976, digitized the slides using an old duplicator on a much newer camera.

    Hi Brian.
Cool to have seen the King. I remember the day he died. And the summer of 76 in UK too!

In the UK- you are in luck, close to Chris.

        https://skyllaney.com/

Chris has turned my hobby into a business. As a Good Luck Gift for his new business, I gave him a Carl Zeiss Jena 4cm F1.4 Biotar made in 1927, the first F1.4 lens that I know of. He converted it to Leica M-Mount. I will be getting one of the pre-production 50mm F2 "Bertele Sonnars" from him.

Eight is Enough by fiftyonepointsix, on Flickr

I converted 5 of these to Leica mount, rebuilt the three original Leica mount Sonnars.

This is with the 1934 Sonnar on the Leica M9, wide-open. Focus on the strand of hair in the foreground,

            G'day Brian

Ah .... those were the days when a lens was a LENS - rather than a collection of electronic bits surrounding some fine chunks of glass !
